I just wanted to vent about the theory that all only chidren are spoiled. I grew up as an only child. My parents and I were a blue-collar family and they did not have the income to provide much beyond food, non-designer clothing, or shelter. They were also very strict and I did not get my own way, bend the rules, or get away with much of anything!
But everyone who meets me and learns that I am an only child assumes I must be terribly spoiled. This is literally how the conversation goes: Someone asks,"Do you have brothers or sisters?" I say," No." Then the first words out of their mouths is: "Oh, lucky you! You must be really spoiled!"
Does this happen to anyone else?

as an only child I would consider myself as somewhat spoiled growing up. mainly because since I was an only child I got all the presents.. when I observe my friends who had larger families.. they only got a few things whereas I got lots of presents. on the flip side, I have always given my parents several presents whereas my friends would typically buy thier parents one present. Growing up, it was natural for me to give/receive lots of presents.

On the other hand, my mom would never buy anything not on sale so I wouldnt consider myself spoiled because didnt get anything I wanted.
